Photo: Raleigh NC Oral Surgeon Dr. Won Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Jonathan Won grew up in Los Angeles, California, and been practicing in the Raleigh, Cary, Elizabeth City, and surrounding areas since 2005.

He attended a small private high school in Glendale, California, which was located very close to a local medical center. Many of his close friends’ family worked as a physician, nurse, or physical therapist. He wanted to become a doctor after being positively affected by their happiness and compassion for helping people in needs.

He majored in Biological Science in University of California, Irvine. Upon graduation, he was accepted to Columbia University School of Dental Medicine. It is considered one of the best dental school in the US year after year.  Its selection process was rigorous and only took less than 70 new students per year out of 4000 applicants. He graduated within top 5% of the class at Columbia University.

Dr. Won moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1999 to start next phase of education. He was admitted to University of North Carolina School of Medicine. The UNC School of Medicine was consistently ranked by US News & World Reports as #1 or #2 out of all the best medical schools in the country. After receiving his M.D., he stayed on for General Surgery internship training and Oral-Maxillofacial surgery residency at the UNC Hospitals. He successfully completed both of them and received certificates in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

He has been taking care of patients in Raleigh, Cary, & Durham areas since 2005 and serving patients in underserved areas in Eastern Carolina, including Elizabeth City and the Outer Banks areas, since 2016. He has successfully completed over 30,000 surgeries!

Dr. Won is focused on providing compassionate care to patients with his expertise in the field and empathy for all aspects of patient’s needs. His biggest professional compliments are when patients bring their family members or friends based on his and her positive experience, which happens often here!

Keeping pace with the ever-changing world of medical science, Dr. Won, continuously trains until this day to maintain his craft and incorporate new technique and technology to his practice. He was one of the first clinicians to adopt cone beam CT scanner for outpatient office in North Carolina. He is first one to bring in cone beam CT scanner to Elizabeth City to improve the patient care.

He frequently attends symposiums and training events in the USA, Canada, and overseas for the latest developments in oral surgery, dental implant surgery, facial surgeries, facial esthetics, and rejuvenation procedures.
